This photographic body of work focuses on the beauty and shape of the human body. Particular sections of the human body are isolated and exposed in the photographs, emphasising the stereotypes of the strong male and the graceful female. The graphic suggestions of shape and form highlight the beauty of each gender and the contrasting aspects between the pair. Using the technique of low-key photography, studio lighting accentuates the contours of the models, similar to the way photographer Bill Henson photographed his 2009/2010 series of the human body.
Extreme low-key photography combined with high-contrast lighting is used to create the distinct contrast between the areas of light and darkness, known as Chiaroscuro.
This series was created as part of a university assessment for the subject Photo Media and Art Practice. Completed in 2018.
